One-Time Password security

The introduction of One-Time Password security through eLink

SERVICE ONE has introduced One-Time Password security through our Internet banking facility - eLink. As a result, it’s important all eLink users are aware of changes that have been made to the system.

We’ve received feedback from Members regarding the security features of eLink not being as user-friendly as they could be, including frustration with the Captcha functionality upon login (the image text that you were required to enter at login). As a result of this feedback, and in our ongoing pursuit of providing Members with a safe and secure Internet banking service, SERVICE ONE has introduced a new security feature in the form of One-Time Passwords.

The new One-Time Password service will send you a unique number in the form of a text message to your mobile phone, and this number only needs to be used once, even if you are performing multiple transactions of the same kind.

With the introduction of this new service and the removal of the Captcha feature, several changes have been made to the eLink Terms and Conditions that Members should be aware of:

  • if Members choose not to use the One-Time Password service, their daily eLink withdrawal limit will be set to $500 per account
  • once Members have registered for One-Time Passwords their daily eLink withdrawal limit will increase to $2,000 (they should allow up to 48 hours for this limit to be active), and
  • any non-standard limits in place will be reinstated once Members register for One-Time Passwords.

Please note withdrawal limits do not apply to BPAY transactions and if Members choose not to register for One-Time Passwords, daily withdrawal limits will remain at $500 per account and Members will need to enter the additional details when making certain transactions.

What you need to do to register for One-Time Passwords

How you register for One-Time Passwords will be dependent upon whether you have your correct mobile number registered in our system. If your current mobile number is registered in our system, simply login to eLink, hover over 'Other' on the primary menu and then select 'Security Options'. If you are unsure of the mobile phone number you have registered with us or wish to register your mobile phone number with us, you can:

  • send us a secure email through eLink
  • complete and return the Membership Update Advice form, or
  • visit one of our Branches, and we can update or add you mobile phone number straight away.
Not registering for One-Time Passwords could mean your eLink daily withdrawal limit is reduced to $500 which essentially may stop you from processing certain transactions in the future. To avoid any inconvenience, please refer to the information above for your options to register for One-Time Passwords.

All eLink users would have received a letter providing details on how to register for One-Time Passwords. If you have not received your letter, and want more information, please contact the Telephone Response Centre on 1300 361 761 during business hours.

Other new services now available

In addition to One-Time Passwords, SERVICE ONE has introduced several other services and these are now available through a new look eLink, including eStatements, Alerts and SMS Banking. Find out more about these services.

In addition, if you currently hold a SERVICE ONE loan or you are considering borrowing with us, an online redraw facility is now available, enabling you access to any available funds via eLink.
